General Statement

The purpose of FIC is to unite people of all denominations at workplaces (or other places) worldwide, to reach out with love to coworkers, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Specific Purpose

  • Employees gather together at work (or elsewhere) on a regular basis, during their lunch hour, with people of all denominations.
  • People of all ages, races, status, and gender are welcome to attend. All are accepted with unconditional love and without prejudice, condemnation, ridicule, criticism, or judgment.
  • All attendees are meant to come together in love, as one family under one God, to focus on God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirt, and on their relationships with one another -- and NOT on individual churches, different theologies or religious doctrines.
  • FIC provides an environment in the middle of the workday where employees can be at peace, have fellowship, support and encourage one another, pray, make new friends, learn new things, and share thoughts, knowledge, and feelings about God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible.
  • The people in FIC are there to strengthen the faith of fellow believers and help unbelievers grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
  • Everyone is welcome to attend FIC meetings who has an honest desire to learn more about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Bible - and what it means to be a Christian. All are accepted with unconditional love and forgiveness, just as God loves and forgive us all. However, this does not mean we condone behavior or beliefs that are in direct opposition to God's Word, but that we accept people in spite of it and do not judge them because of it.
  • If doctrinal differences should arise during a meeting, those in disagreement should meet privately at another time, away from the group. Then we encourage them to pray for God to give them wisdom and discernment about the issues in question and to trust the Holy Spirit to guide them into all Truth. Those who are unable to settle issues in a peaceful, satisfactory manner may choose not to attend future meetings.
  • As long as a doctrinal disagreement does not go against core Biblical Truths surrounding the salvation of Jesus Christ (as stated in "What We Beleive" in this site), everyone must learn to "agree to disagree" on minor issues and go on from there. Why? Because everyone in FIC comes from a different religious background, has different levels of Biblical knowledge, and are at different levels in their relationships with Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is IMPOSSIBLE for everyone to ALWAYS agree on every detail of doctrine. (As Jesus said in Matthew 23:24, we must be careful not to "...strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!")
  • FIC groups all over the world are encouraged to contact one another to share information, new ideas, and to offer encouragement and support.

Scriptures On Which FIC Was Founded (NKJV)

"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called; with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." (Ephes. 4:1-6)

"Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 15:5)

"Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." (1 Cor. 1:10)

"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another. If anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another..." (Col. 3:12-16)

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. "And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: "I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." (John 17:20-23)

Summary

FIC stands for "FRIENDS" in Christ. As such, the group is meant to be a safe place for fellowship for those who know Jesus as their Savior, or want to know him. It is not a place for doctrinal debates as to whose church "has it down better than another." Nor is it a place to recruit Christians to leave one church to attend another. Remember to always keep in mind that no church or person does "it" perfectly.

FIC is a place where you can go to share your heart, your testimony, your praise reports, and your prayer requests. It is open to ALL who believe. And it is the responsibility of God's Holy Spirit - not us - to "pluck the log out of another person's eye" and to convict each person about what they should or should not be doing in their individiual walks with God. However, it is our responsibility to follow Jesus' commands to "forgive one another" and to "love they neighbor as thyself."

In conclusion, FIC must first and foremost be a source of love and encouragement, in order to build up the body of Christ. Then we must remember that ALL our walks with God are imperfect at best. But thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ, God's grace covers us ALL.
